Feb 12, 2016 Google on Friday announced that the Picasa desktop app and its corresponding online photo-sharing. Existing Picasa installations will still work. But you can download Picasa desktop application and use it locally on your Windows PC. Google is shutting Picasa Web Albums. But you can download Picasa desktop application and use it locally on your Windows PC. After the cut-off date, existing Picasa installations will still work. However, Google has said it will cease development of the app so there will be no future updates nor will the Picasa app continue to be available for download after March 15. Picasa Web Albums is still alive and kicking, though its URL now directs you to Google+. Screenshot by Lance Whitney/CNET Google is once again trying hard to convince users of Picasa Web Albums to jump over to Google+ Photos. The URL no longer brings you to Picasa Web Albums but instead redirects you to Google+ Photos. As described by the, which is unaffiliated with Google, you have to enter the URL to sneak back into Picasa Web Albums. You only need to enter that URL once, though. After you use it the first time, Google sets a cookie that turns off the redirection. So you can then go back to using to access your Picasa photo album page. Google has been. The search giant has already replaced and has been redirecting individual photo albums to the Google+ interface, according to the Google Operating System Blog. There has been some confusion in regards to Google's announcement to. The main issue here is that Picasa is made up of two parts: a desktop program and Picasa Web Albums. The latter will be retired on May 1, 2016 and no longer accessible after that date. Google plans to provide users who don't want to migrate to the company's new Google Photos platform with a read-only version supporting features that Picasa Web Albums supports but Google Photos does not. It is unclear however how long this new platform will be kept alive, and likely that Google will terminate it eventually. As far as the desktop program is concerned, it too will be retired by Google.

Microsoft's Outlook Express is a discontinued product that was included with Internet Explorer 3 through 6.The last version, Outlook Express 6, shipped with Windows XP.A beta version of Outlook Express 7 was originally planned for Windows 7, but it was replaced by Windows Mail. Good Afternoon. I have installed the virtual pc software and XP mode software onto my windows 7 computer so I can run outlook Express within the 'XP mode. Given all the other things that people want from Windows, and all the directions Microsoft wants to take Windows, throw in the fact that Outlook Express had many, many problems (I hear about them all the time) – I would not expect Outlook Express on Windows 7 to be a priority for Microsoft to spend any energy on. So the replacements are there; Microsoft has simply removed the years of duplication by making Windows Live the official, single set of tools you can download and use if you like. The problem, of course, is migration. According to Microsoft you can Import directly from Outlook Express and Windows Mail folders stored on your. Read more: • Windows 7 Professional and above include “Windows XP” mode. If you have programs that don’t work or aren’t available in Windows 7, XP Mode may help. • I’ll show you how to move from Outlook Express to Windows Live Mail on Windows 7 (the easiest moving option), step by annoying step. • Microsoft has created a lot of confusion with how it names its mail products. Add the transition from MSN to Windows Live branding and it gets worse. • The upgrade path from XP to Windows 7 is clear, albeit some work. The path from Vista can be simpler, but I recommend a clean install anyway. Windows Mail, Windows Live Mail, and Thunderbird are not adequate replacements for Outlook Express. That’s because none of those programs provide the “Identities” feature. If you don’t use or understand Identities, you can pass this off as an unimportant extra, but those of us who do use it feel that it’s an essential item for any respectable e-mail program. We are not weirdos or cranks. We just feel that this important feature should not have been discontinued. I’m unhappy enough that I won’t ever upgrade to any new Microsoft O.S. Unless they bring back Outlook Express or a viable replacement. When they no longer provide security patches for XP, I’ll move to another platform. I don’t need to stick with Microsoft to use Thunderbird. I can use it with a Linux machine, or if I win the lottery, a Macintosh. If e-mail is a user’s chief concern, the much maligned Windows ME is a far more usable operating system than Windows 7. Incidentally, I’ve been using the Release Candidate of Windows 7 for some time and have found that one workaround for the Outlook Express problem is to run an older version of Windows in Microsoft’s Virtual PC. It works, but what a pain! And possibly insecure too. Your telling ME they are, to put it very politely, “not adequate replacements” for Outlook Express. Perfectly workable programs are being wiped off the books at an alarming rate replaced by badly coded useless and troublesome programs like there is no tomorrow. When is the international community going to give Microsoft a serve about their unwillingness to listen to the pleas of so many users with endless problems. It is getting out of hand and needs to be deal with by someone with balls. I have just spent more than three days trying o make a damn email client work on windows 7 64bit computer running like a rocket. What the hell is wrong with software developers these days? Just one more reason that Windows will continue to be bloatware. They will always have to support obsolete technologies and methods. It always amazes me how resistant people are to change yet they are the first to complain that “nothing changes”. I haven’t used Outlook Express in years. If I get one more e-mail with the.eml extension I am going to choke someone. I have been using Windows 7 beta for many months. Skype has always been about bringing people together. I’ve been using the free LogMeIn remote access service for several years now. I’ve never felt the need to pay for the commercial service, as mostly what I use it for is connecting to my home PC while I’m at work – or vice versa – and copying whatever files I need into Dropbox. Now it’s been announced that the free service is being discontinued on 28 January – next week, in other words, meaning us free users don't get a sunset period so much as an abrupt flicking off of the lights. As of next Wednesday, the service starts at $49 a year for two computers. As LogMeIn points out, this gets you not only basic remote access, but also “premium features like remote printing, file transfer and cloud data access, plus desktop and mobile apps to improve your experience.” I don’t need any of that, however: for what I need, I'd be fine with one of the numerous lightweight, or Windows’ built-in Remote Desktop Connection tool. If only they’d work through the Dennis Publishing firewall. Since they don’t, I’m left looking for a properly free alternative to LogMeIn that I can switch to next week. Here's what I've found. TeamViewer is marketed primarily as a business tool for virtual meetings and online presentations, but it also works as a remote access service. In use it feels at least as smooth as LogMeIn, with support for Windows, OS X and Linux, and includes built-in file transfer, chat and remote printing functions. The catch is that, unlike LogMeIn, TeamViewer doesn't permit you to use its free service for commercial purposes. That means I can browse and organise my personal files from afar, but if I want to access a work document I’ve been writing at home (hey, it happens), I’m in breach – and a commercial licence costs a steep £439. I'm in a very frustrating situation. About a year ago I acquired a white Macbook (model A1181, 2007 version) running OS X Lion. I was using it happily until last week, when my hard drive suddenly failed. I installed a new drive into it, and got it going again, though I had to start from scratch. A lot of my stuff is saved in Google Drive, so for the most part I was ok, but one really annoying thing is that iPhoto was no longer on my computer, which I use quite a bit. I went to the App Store to re-download it, but it said you need OS X 10.10 to download iPhoto. And my computer doesn't support any OS past 10.7. Go to AppStore and find an older version of iPhoto under PURCHASES and download. Then, you will be able to get photos back from your external drive (I use WD Elements). Then, you will be able to get photos back from your external drive (I use WD Elements). Missing photos after upgrading iPhoto 6 to iPhoto 9.6.1 or Photos 1.5 # Issue: Old Mac running OS X 10.6.8 with iPhoto 6 library containing 5,238 items Imported data, including iPhoto Library, to new Mac running OS X 10.11.5 and Photos 1.5. Via Migration Assistant. So I'm kind of stuck. I don't know what to do, but I need iPhoto. It seems ridiculous to get a whole new computer for just a single app, and one that I had before my hard drive failed! Is there any place I can download an older version of iPhoto? PS, I'm having the same issue trying to download 1Password and Pixelmator. I was able to get a 30-day trial of pixelmator online, which I'm using for now. Here is a download link for an older version of iPhoto: ( this is an update only; you still need the original, older iPhoto software to support this or it will not work.) These are the release notes: What's New in Version 9.4 Adds support for Shared Photo Streams on OS X Mountain Lion Comments can now be added to photos after publishing them to Facebook New card and calendar themes have been added A new File menu command can be used to open the current photo library in Aperture (if installed) Includes performance and stability improvements Post Date: Sep 19, 2012 File Size: 757.61 MB. Old Version of iPhoto are available here: To go back to an older version of iPhoto, you must have a backed up Library from that version. An older version of iPhoto will not open newer versions libraries. If you have newly imported photos in your 5 library that are not in your backed up library you will need to share/export them now. Export the Original to the desktop. These can be imported once you are back in the older version of iPhoto. Navigate to /Applications and drag iPhoto to the trash Navigate to /Library/Receipts and drag all of the iPhoto receipts to the trash Navigate to ~/Library/Preferences and drag com.apple.iPhoto.plist to the trash Navigate to ~/Pictures and drag your iPhoto 5 Library folder to the desktop. You can keep it on your hard drive in another folder, or you can rename it and keep it in the Pictures folder, or you can move it to an external for safe keeping or you can burn the entire iPhoto Library folder for safekeeping. Launch Activity Monitor which is found in your Utilites folder. Do a search for iTunes Helper and then quit that process. (you might or might not have to do this) Insert your older iLife CD/DVD and choose to do a custom install. Install iPhoto Run Software Update and update iPhoto to the latest version. That means if you installed 4 there should be some updated version of 4 Put your backed up iPhoto Library in the Pictures folder. If it is named iPhoto Library then it should open when iPhoto is launched. If you renamed it, then launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and have it open the library you navigate to. If you don't have a backed up version of the iPhoto Library of the version you want to install then you have a lot more steps to do. If done this way, all albums, keywords, folders will have to be redone because you are starting from scratch with a new library and importing these photos into the new library. There are two ways to import your photos. 1) Download an application called iPhoto Extractor. Use it to extract the photos from your version 5 library. 2) you can share/export all your photos from your iPhoto 5 library (within iPhoto 5) to a folder on the desktop (this lumps them all in one folder) or you can share/export each roll you have in iPhoto 5.this will keep all your imports done at the same time together If all your photos are in Albums, then share/export each album. If you have a photo in more than one album, you will get duplicates when you import the albums back into iPhoto 4 library. (These steps must be done before you install iPhoto 4) Whatever way you choose, make sure you have all the photos from your library copied. Use this to learn the basic features of Publisher.
